GRIEF: How to Deal With Sudden Loss.
Let me start by saying I am not a grief counselor, however, as a medium, I am a resource some choose to employ in dealing with grief. Therefore, by default I have had to become more aware of how to deal with loss.
When my own parents died both chose on a soul level to leave earth slowly. My mother as an example, was six months in hospice with lung cancer. The family had adequate time to prepare for her passing.
However, can you imagine or have you had to deal with someone gone suddenly? Recently a very close friend/client of mine lost her husband, the love of her life, of a heart attack, unexpectedly.
He went to sleep for a nap and never woke up. He was in his mid years, not anywhere near an age you would expect a passing.
Of course, his wife, was devastated. The first thing she felt was guilt. She said to me, “If I had only known I could have called 911, or done something.”
Here is a synopsis of what I told her to do.
1. Do not be alone at this time. Seek the solace and companionship of others to be there for you and with you at least for a few weeks.
2. Do not blame yourself. There was nothing you could have done and surely if you knew he was ill you would have done something.
3. Do not make any big life changing decisions right now, like moving, changing your life style or anything. Allow at least one year to pass before making any big decisions.
4. Study the Other Side from credible sources. Learn as much about where souls go after physical death, what the spirit world is like and how to communicate with your loved one once you have cleared your grief. Some of the books I recommend are at item #11 on this page HERE.
5. See a Grief Therapist.
6. Join a Grief Support Group.
7. Perhaps get EMDR, a technique used to help individuals dealing with trauma. This is explained at Item #2 on this page HERE.
8. When you are ready set up a special location in dedication to this person. For my friend her husband from spirit showed a flowering tree in the back yard with an antique chair under it. She confirmed this was in their back yard. He suggested through me as the medium she sprinkle some of his ashes there, creating a special place for her to feel his presence and connect with him.
9. Rest. Take better care of yourself than ever. You might have a tendency to want to drink alcohol, take drugs to excess, smoke cigarettes even after you stopped. This is your way of coping, however, gentle self care is the best way to cope.
10. Prayer, spiritual connection, to gain peace in the arms of a higher power. This is very important. Your connection to a higher power can help to heal you. Never underestimate the power of prayer for healing. Take time to be quiet and sit in the presence of a loving spiritual presence. Ask for healing, relief and that your loved one is safe.
Well, there you have it, some ideas to help when you are in grief, especially if you lost your loved one suddenly.
