Meditation for Eyesight Improvement. I have been using a specific meditation which I believe is improving my vision.
Introduction – Meditation for Eyesight Improvement
As I stumble into old age, many things are sifting away in my world.. On of these things is clear vision.
Being the stubborn, persistent person I am, I decided to keep trying different holistic methods to improve it.
Besides spending less time in front of a computer or phone screen, visually exploring diverse landscapes out in the world and taking an eye supplement, I found a meditation for eyesight improvement which seems to be working.
The Art of Candle Gazing – Meditation for Eyesight Improvement
As I do a candle meditation I feel the muscles around my eyes being challenged to stare at the candle without blinking. This creates a very dynamic, powerful and persistent ocular workout.
During the day after this meditation I notice my eyes feel more alive, alert and focused as they bring in crisper images from the environment.
Why Candle Gazing Works
In today’s digital age, with screens dominating our daily lives, eye strain and deteriorating vision have become increasingly common concerns. While modern medicine offers various solutions, from glasses to surgeries, many are turning to alternative methods to improve eyesight.
One such practice gaining traction is candle gazing, an ancient technique rooted in mindfulness and meditation.
Candle gazing, also known as Trataka in yoga and Ayurveda, involves focusing one’s gaze on a small, steady flame. This simple yet profound practice has been utilized for centuries to enhance concentration, clarity of mind, and surprisingly, improve eyesight.
While it may sound too good to be true, the principles behind candle gazing align with modern understandings of vision improvement.
At its core, candle gazing works by exercising and relaxing the muscles of the eyes. When we stare at screens or engage in close-up tasks for prolonged periods, our eye muscles become strained and fatigued.
Candle gazing provides a natural remedy by encouraging the eyes to move, focus, and relax in a rhythmic manner.
The Flame Workout – Meditation for Eyesight Improvement
The flickering flame of a candle offers a dynamic point of focus, challenging the eyes to track its movements. As one gazes at the flame, the surrounding environment fades into softness, allowing the eyes to rest from harsh artificial lights.
This gentle exercise helps strengthen the muscles responsible for accommodation, the ability of the eye to focus on objects at varying distances.
Dry Eyes Helped
Furthermore, candle gazing promotes the production of tears, which lubricate the eyes and alleviate dryness—a common issue exacerbated by excessive screen time. The act of blinking while gazing at the flame also helps prevent the eyes from becoming dry and irritated.
Additionally, candle gazing induces a state of relaxation and reduces stress, both of which are beneficial for overall eye health. Stress and tension can manifest physically in the body, including the eyes, leading to symptoms such as headaches and blurry vision. By practicing candle gazing regularly, individuals can mitigate these effects and promote a sense of calmness that extends to the eyes.
An Easy Way to Meditate
Moreover, candle gazing serves as a form of meditation, fostering mindfulness and inner awareness. As practitioners focus their attention on the flame, they cultivate a sense of presence and detachment from external distractions. This mental clarity can translate into improved visual perception, as the mind and eyes work in harmony to perceive the world around them.
Consult With Your Medical Professional
It’s important to note that while candle gazing can be a valuable tool for maintaining eye health and potentially improving vision, it is not a substitute for professional eye care. Individuals with serious vision impairments or underlying eye conditions should consult an optometrist or ophthalmologist for appropriate treatment.
How to Do Candle Gazing – Meditation for Eyesight Improvement
Incorporating candle gazing into one’s daily routine is simple and requires minimal equipment—a candle and a quiet space free from distractions are all that’s needed.
Begin by lighting the candle at eye level and sitting comfortably in front of it.
Relax the body and gaze softly at the flame, allowing the eyes to naturally adjust and focus. Practice for a few minutes each day, gradually increasing the duration as comfort allows.
I actually am getting great results just using a youtube.com video. I think because thie visual is coming through a computer screen, it actually is helping my eyes more than if I lit a real candle.
The choice is yours. Experiment with both.
Here is the video I have been using daily.
NOTE! This worked initially, but then my vision got worse. Consequently, I shifted to using a real candle rather than a video of one. So far, so good. We will see how this goes.
Conclusion
In conclusion, candle gazing offers a natural and accessible method for improving eyesight vision. By engaging in this ancient practice, individuals can strengthen their eye muscles, alleviate strain, and cultivate a sense of inner calmness—all of which contribute to healthier, clearer vision in the long run. So, the next time you feel the strain of modern life weighing on your eyes, consider taking a moment to gaze into the gentle flicker of a candle flame.
