YOGA FOR BACK PAIN: I’m Feeling It!
Many of you love yoga. Every time I ever tried doing it, I felt like I would crack in half. Guess that meant I needed it.
Lately I have had an intuition to try it for back pain, lower back pain, hip pain, knee pain and scoliosis. I have lived with a spinal issue most of my adult life, using physical therapy to manage it.
I have done pretty well, except I lost about 3 inches in height slowly over time. My spine had all sorts of issues stemming from a bad case of spondylolisthesis slippage of lowest vertebrae in spine.
This caused a myriad of other problems including uneven hips, one leg longer than the other, scoliosis, bone spurs, stenosis, slipped discs and so on. Amazingly, I have not felt much pain unless I stopped the physical therapy I had been doing for years.
However lately I have felt so much pain even thought I do this therapy religiously, I have considered not even walking let alone dancing, my favorite hobby. I feel the pain mostly in my right hip and knee. My spine does not bother me as much.
HOLISTIC remedies for back pain and other joint pain include:
1. SUPPLEMENTS: Glucosamine, chondroitin, omega-3, and green tea are just a few of them. Glucosamine helps keep the cartilage in joints healthy and may have an anti-inflammatory effect. Natural glucosamine levels drop as people age. Taken from www.webmd.com/diet/arthritis-guide.
I had take most of these at some point, however, my diet and supplements were excellent so I did not think this was cause for my back pain or hip pain.
2. PHYSICAL THERAPY. Depending on where your back pain is PT can be very helpful. I had a great routine which worked for years, but lately was not any longer for some mysterious reason.
3. YOGA. I have always been attracted to Yoga, but really did not appreciate, nor understand its power. Yes, I knew it helped individuals become more mindful about their bodies and therefore themselves, which is a wonderful spiritual practice, however, I did not fully grasp its power for back pain or body alignment.
YOGA IS ALL ABOUT BODY ALIGNMENT. If you have back pain I suggest you take a look at yoga if you have not already. There are many videos addressing special needs such as yoga for back pain, scoliosis, hip and joint pain, lower back and so on on Youtube.com.
YOGA FOR BACK PAIN. I have not seen full results yet for my own back problems, however, my spine is now more pulled up through the torso, my spine is straighter, my right hip seems to hurt a bit less and I am walking a bit taller.
UNEXPECTED BENEFITS. I did not anticipate this when I started yoga but I have discovered each time I do Yoga, I feel like I swallowed a gallon of sunlight, oxygen and energy. I feel relaxed and centered. I glow from the inside out.
YOGA must increase oxygen to the cells in the body through slowly opening and stretching them in only the way yoga is able. Can you imagine how constructive this must be for longevity? :)
I just LOVE YOGA and highly recommend it as a spiritual, spinal and final therapy for MIND BODY SOUL healing to happiness!
